During our time in London, Mr. Hugh Dugan, president and founder of the Truce Foundation, invited Western New England University students to help in the hosting of the Foundation's Awards and Recognition Ceremony at the East India Club at St. James Square.
Four students -- Jenn Mears, Heather Mears, Lydia Lefevre, and Maria Francese -- volunteered to help, and they were joined by Dr. Sharianne Walker and Teddi-Jann Covell.
Mr. Dugan, who is a career State Department diplomat assigned to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York City, was grateful to the WNE delegation for its able assistance. Dr. Walker handled the emceeing chores, and the students assisted with registering guests, escorting VIPs to their seats, videotaping and photographing the event, running the A/V equipment, and generally serving as genial hosts on behalf of the Truce Foundation.
In top photo, the students and Teddi-Jann Covell are shown with Mr. Dugan (in rear), and award recipient Lord Michael Bates and his wife. Lord Bates, a member of Parliament, walked the 3,000 miles from Ancient Olympia, Greece, to London to commemorate the significance of the sacred Olympic Truce, which resolution was passed unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly earlier this year.
