Monday, August 8

Note to readers:  With apologies, the Wi-Fi has been spotty at best at the Pousada so blog posting has been difficult to say the least.  Still, I will do my best to post photos to correspond with our schedule and daily activities.

Today's schedule included paying a visit to Olympic Park, which is a cluster of many sports venues, and attending an incredible marathon tennis match (three hours and 14 minutes, the longest of this Olympics so far) between American Madison Keys and France's Kristina Mladenovic in three sets with two tiebreaks, 7-5, 6-7, 7-6.  Without a doubt, the WNE contingent helped deliver Keys' victory with their unrelenting cheering and chants of U-S-A, which Keys acknowledged with a look and wave afterwards.  The match was televised stateside on NBC as the students earned the cameras' attention with their enthusiasm and displays of the red, white, and blue!  Here is a video clip from Keys' match, including finale-->  http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/us-madison-keys-wins-tight-second-round-match-tiebreak

In the afternoon, the group paid a visit to the United States Olympic Committee's Operations and Performance Center, where they were given an insiders' briefing and tour by Doug Ingram, who previously visited WNE as a speaker in the CISB "For the Love of the Games" program.

Looks like the students are having the time of their lives. What an awesome experience to share with one another. What sports have you seen so far, and which ones are coming up before heading home?
