Wimbledon vs. Olympic Tennis
This summer's Olympic tennis competition will take place at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, aka Wimbledon, where the tradition-bound Brits ordinarily insist on a whites-only policy (clothing, not people). But the rule is being lifted for the Olympics, allowing players to wear a splash of colors, including that of their respective countries' flags. Another difference is that the facility's usually staid surroundings will be emblazoned with Olympic imagery featuring the ubiquitous five interlocking rings. But perhaps the biggest difference? Men's and women's singles winners at this year's Wimbledon each pocketed a cool $1.8M, while Olympic champions will get a faux gold medal and a hearty handshake from an Olympic bigwig.
