Blade Runner Makes SA Team
Today, the South African Olympic Committee named the fastest man with no legs -- Oscar Pistorius -- to its 4x400 relay team for the 2012 Olympic Games. Known as the "Blade Runner" due to his carbon fiber prostheses, Pistorius was born without fibula in both legs, which were amputed below the knee at 11 months of age. Pistorius will become the first amputee to participate in track and field at the Olympics, which he has pursued with dogged determination. The 25-year-old sprinter will also compete in the Paralympic Games two weeks after the close of the Olympics. Inspiring for sure, and also gives pause to consider our own potential to achieve beyond what we previously thought possible.
