Economists, What Say Ye?
With leaders of the world's largest economies in Quebec this past weekend, one cannot help but think that if the football teams of those nations were to advance to the World Cup's knockout round, national fervor would build to a fever pitch, giving those G-4 countries an additional economic dividend. For example, Business Matters Magazine reports that England would stand to gain $1.8 billion in additional consumer spending on food, drink, and team shirts, to all manner of affinity products; and even TVs, furniture, and BBQs. Sadly, there will be no such dividend this time for Italy, U.S., or Canada, eh?
