Beautiful Game, Ugly Business

The Economist this week lamented that the beautiful game could be so much better, if only it was administered by competent -- and honest -- people.  Despite a longstanding air of corruption, match fixing tied to gambling, FIFA's slow embrace of technology to improve the game, and bribery accusations over the 2022 World Cup, football's sanctified place in the pantheon of world sport does not appear to be in jeopardy owing to near universal indifference among the global faithful.  It seems that football fans the world over are more romantic nationalists than hardcore ethicists or logical economists.  Your thoughts?     http://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21603433-football-great-sport-it-could-be-so-much-better-if-it-were-run-honestly-beautiful-game
