Arrived Safely in Rio and Hit the Ground Running!

After departing JFK International Airport early Saturday morning, we arrived in Bogota at 1 p.m., where we had a nine-hour layover before continuing our journey to Rio de Janeiro.  The students were excited to finally be in Rio, where we headed straight to our hotel, which is sort of a sport resort compound about 20 miles from the city center.  With barely enough time to grab a quick bite, unpack, shower, and take a short nap or check out the soccer pitch, we were off to Maracana Stadium for the evening match between Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegonia.

McKenzie Pezze, Jeremy Patti, and Irina Smith -- Argentine partisans, all -- show off their prime seats at the center field line!

Outside of Maracana Stadium about three hours before the 7 p.m. start time.  The announced attendance was 75,000, and as can be seen in this photo, the police and security presence was a show of force!

Tom Cowin, an avowed EPL Newcastle United supporter, shows his team's colors along with his commemorative FIFA World Cup shawl outside of Maracana Stadium.

All present and accounted for -- including Golden Bear -- behind the University's colors.
