Post Script to June 14

On our second day in Moscow, we pushed back morning seminar to 8 a.m. and the daily run to 6 a.m. (from 7 a.m. and 5 a.m., respectively), to give student some extra sleeping time.  Meanwhile, Prof. Sugermeyer and I did a five-mile jog along the Moscow River in the still of early morning, where we also did reconnaissance of the area surrounding our Moscow headquarters hotel.  We heard the first of five student presentations at morning seminar, which are 20-to-30 minute verbal reports on a research topic that teams of two students each worked on prior to the trip.  The students then had some down time to get in a bit of exercise by kicking a soccer ball around at a nearby pitch, and the whole group decided to head out to the stadium early to take in the pre-game atmosphere of the World Cup opening match, four hours before kick-off.  Now that everyone has been to their first World Cup match (except for Andrea who is on her second tour), I'll be interested to hear their first impressions at morning seminar.
